EMBL Beamlines see the light

On 9 December 2010, the macromolecular crystallography beamline P13 under construction at the PETRA III synchrotron saw its first monochromatic beam. With P13, all three EMBL beamlines at EMBL@PETRAIII have now reached this important stage in their construction. more

EMBL Group leader awarded RUSNANOPRIZE 2010

On the 3rd of November EMBL Hamburg group leader Dmitri Svergun was awarded the Nanotechnology International Prize RUSNANOPRIZE 2010 in a ceremony held as part of the 3rd International Forum on Nanotechnology in Moscow. more

SAXS Course 2010

The BioSAXS group led by Dmitri Svergun at EMBL Hamburg now has a bit more time to relax following another action packed and very successful EMBO Practical Course on Solution Scattering from Biological Macromolecules held at the unit from the 25th October to the 1st November 2010. more

The first joint EMBL-Hamburg and EBI course a success

Thirty students participated in the first EMBO Practical Course on “Computational aspects of protein structure determination and analysis: from data to structure to function” which took place from the 6th to the 10th of September at the EMBL-EBI, near Cambridge, UK. more

An EMBO Practical Course with many perspectives

Proper sample preparation is an important requirement to obtain useful data for structural studies. In August 2010, EMBL Hamburg organised the EMBO Practical Course on Protein Expression, Purification and Crystallisation (PEPC7) for the seventh time. This biannual course combines interactive lectures from internationally renowned researchers in molecular biology and crystallography. Twenty participants came together from Europe, South Africa and the US to learn about the latest developments in the field. more

Pupylation targets identified in Mycobacteria

In a paper published today in Molecular Systems Biology, scientists from EMBL Hamburg report on their work on identifying post-translational targets in Mycobacteria. A proteome wide analysis of Mycobacterium smegmatis revealed a total of 41 validated candidate targets using two complementary proteomics approaches. more

From the 5th to the 7th May, ca 120 participants attended the EMBO Conference entitled “Catalytic Mechanims by biological systems: at the interface between chemistry and biology” which took place on the DESY Campus in Hamburg. more

EMBL Hamburg hosts the second INSTRUCT annual meeting

The second annual INSTRUCT meeting took place in the centre of Hamburg from the 28th to the 29th of April 2010 and was hosted by EMBL Hamburg. Just over 120 delegates from academia, industry and the EU commission participated in the two day meeting which covered reports from the working groups and research activities as well as from the newly selected associate centres. more

Renewed attack launched on Tuberculosis

Together with international collaborators from 13 laboratories, EMBL scientists from Hamburg and from Heidelberg will contribute to a new project funded by the FP7 programme of the European Commission to understand the Systems Biology of Tuberculosis. SysteMTb is coordinated by Luis Serrano from the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) in Barcelona and kicks off on April 1st 2010. more
