Experiments in Behaviour

30 November 2007, 16:00, EMBL Large Operon

Rod Dickinson, University of the West of England

Rod Dickinson is an artist and lecturer whose work explores ideas of belief, behaviour and social control. He teaches Digital Media at the University of West England in Bristol.

For the last seven years he has made a series of artworks that use re-enactment as a strategy to investigate historic events that have a resonance with the present. These detailed, recreated moments of the past have included a live recreation of Stanley Milgram's controversial Obedience to Authority social psychology experiment. Other artworks also explore the relationship between science, and its mediation in public life.

In this lecture he will present these projects and discuss how science intersects them and why it is a compelling and useful area to focus his artwork on.
