Vicky Robinson, NC3Rs
Since their inception in the late 1950's the principles of the 3Rs (replacement, reduction and refinement of research using animals) have become accepted in the UK and internationally as the ethical principles which underpin the humane use of animals in scientific research and testing. Enshrined in legislation regulating the use of research animals, the 3Rs are increasingly important from a scientific and public acceptance standpoint.
This presentation will outline why the 3Rs are important for improving science and animal welfare and will describe the work of the NC3Rs - the UK's 3Rs Centre which was established by the Government in 2004 to act as a catalyst for advancing the 3Rs.
