Competition
"Scientists can-and-do change the world" - Good communication of the wonder, fascination and relevance of scientific research is an absolute essential to this. We believe that outstanding scientists of today are also the best communicators, and the ability to write about science in an accessible and interesting way is a talent that is much in demand.
The Phd Symposium Science Writing Prize is dedicated to promote science writing and encourage young Phd students to connect with a wide audience through their words. The prize is given annually for an outstanding piece of science writing designed to communicate a topical issue to a non-scientific audience.
So, we are looking for motivated Phd students who can communicate the excitement and importance of their research in a style that will entertain , inform and stimulate the readers from a wide range of the society to appreciate the scientific contributions made by researchers all over the world.
AwardThe sum awarded is 1.000 €. In addition:

Eligibility
Any Phd student up to 30 years.
Entries must
- be written using language and style suitable for a non-scientific audience
- be no longer than 1.000 words
- be written in English (but a version in another language may be submitted in addition)
- NOT already have been published, or be awaiting publication, either on paper or on the Internet
Applications
Only one entry per person may be submitted, using the online application form.
Images accompanying entries may be submitted by email to the writing prize committee.
Applicants may take their inspiration from the following when considering a topic for writing the essay. However, this is not a criterion for acceptance.
